Ajanta and Ellora are a group of cave temples and premier UNESCO World Heritage Sites famous for their rock-cut sculptures, frescos, and the monolithic Kailasa Temple. Upon arriving at the Mumbai airport, our tour manager will welcome you and take you to Shirdi, a temple town famous for the Sai Baba Temple. From there, you will head to Nashik to visit the Trimbakeshwar Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. You will head to Aurangabad, visiting the Panchavati Wildlife Sanctuary on the way. The beautiful sanctuary is home to tigers, leopards, and over 300 bird species.
Spend the night in Aurangabad.
Today, you will begin your tour with a visit to the Shani Shingnapur Temple, dedicated to Lord Shani. The temple is considered a Jagrut Devasthan, i.e, the deity is considered a living and vigilant guardian protecting the villagers. Also, the houses within the village do not have doors, as there is no theft – the locals believe that Lord Shani punishes people who go astray.
Spend the night in Aurangabad.
Today, you will drive to the Ajanta and Ellora Caves, which are about a 3-hour drive apart. These caves are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The site comprises 30 rock-cut Buddhist monuments carved between the 5th and 6th centuries BCE, with the earliest excavations around the 7th century BCE.
Spend the night in Aurangabad.
Today, you will explore the Ellora Caves, a series of rock-cut cave temples dating back from the 5th to the 12th centuries. The Ellora is also home to the Kailasa Temple, built during the 7th century by the Rashtrakuta King Krishna I. This is the largest monolithic rock-cut monument, 300 feet long and 175 feet wide.
You will also visit the Grishneshwar Temple, Bibi-ka-Maqbara, and the Daulatabad Fort during the Aurangabad tour.
Return to your hotel in Aurangabad to spend the night.
Today, you will check out of the hotel and head to Pune. You can explore some of the city’s top attractions or spend the time shopping until it is time for your return train/flight.
