Featuring beautifully painted walls, embellished ceilings, and intricately carved pillars, the architecture of the temple depicts scenes from Hindu scriptures and mythology. The main shrine has a black stone idol of Lord Jagannath. The temple complex also houses four smaller shrines, dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Surya, the Sun God, and Goddess Shakti.

Monsoon Palace

The Monsoon Palace in Udaipur, also known as Sajjangarh Palace, is situated amidst the Aravalli Hills. Built by Maharana Sajjan Singh during the late 19th century, it was initially meant to be an astronomical observatory. Later, it was turned into a monsoon retreat and a hunting lodge for the royal family. The foundation of the palace is laid on marble pillars that feature beautiful motifs of leaves and flowers carved on them. The palace was built to overlook the monsoon clouds, which is where the name was derived from. The jharokhas, fountains, and domes add to the glamour of this architectural beauty.

Fateh Sagar Lake

Fateh Sagar Lake is an artificial lake located in the northwest part of the city. Named after Maharana Fateh Singh of Udaipur and Mewar, it was originally constructed in 1678 AD by Maharana Jai Singh. Later, it was reconstructed in 1889 AD by Maharana Fateh Singh. Foods To Try Out With Our Udaipur Tour Packages

The cuisine of Rajasthan is primarily vegetarian and includes a lot of hardy grains and pulses, owing to the arid desert climate of the state. Udaipur’s cuisine, though, is distinct in this aspect. Belonging to the Mewar region of Rajasthan, most of the city’s cuisine is Mewari cuisine. The roots of the Mewari cuisine in Udaipur can be traced back to the Mewar dynasty, whose Rajput rulers founded Udaipur. Since these rulers enjoyed hunting, game meat was a predominant part of their meals. The meat was cooked using items such as ghee, garlic, chillies, and yoghurt.

Compared to the other parts of the state, the Mewar region of Rajasthan is known to have a less parched climate. Therefore, the cuisine also includes freshwater fish along with corn that grows in the fertile soil of the region. Spices such as cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and bay leaves are used in plenty in Udaipur’s cuisine. Ghee, grains, and pulses can be found in the city’s food as well. Let’s check out the lip-smacking dishes you must try out in Udaipur with our Udaipur tour packages:

Dal Baati Churma

One can simply not leave Udaipur or any part of Rajasthan without trying the iconic dal baati churma. It has three components. The dal refers to the mixed lentil curry, the baati refers to the balls of bread made using whole wheat flour, and the churma is sweet, crumbled wheat. This dish is present during most festivals, events, and special occasions, including weddings.

Gatte Ki Sabzi

Gatte ki sabzi is a traditional Rajasthani dish which features dumplings made out of chickpeas. These spicy and firm dumplings are cooked in a tangy yoghurt-based gravy. This makes the overall dish spicy and creamy. It’s usually served along with rice, rotis, or parathas.

Laal Maas

If you’re looking for a delicious non-vegetarian option in Udaipur, then you can’t go wrong with laal maas. It’s a traditional Rajasthani red mutton curry which was historically known to be a favourite among Rajput rulers. The spicy and fiery taste of the curry served as the perfect relief for the warriors during cold desert nights. Some of the ingredients that go into making this dish are red chillies, yoghurt, and several aromatic spices.

Ker Sangri

Ker sangri is a rather unusual Rajasthani delicacy. It comprises wild berries or ker and dried beans or sangri. Both the berries and beans grow in the arid regions of the state. Also known as panchkuta sabji, it’s made using ingredients like mustard seeds, red chillies, yoghurt, dry mango powder, and ghee.

Banjara Murgh

Banjara murgh is a Rajasthani chicken curry that’s prepared by being slow-cooked over an open fire. The mixture of yoghurt and spices contributes to the richness of the curry. We recommend that you try the banjara murgh at the restaurant called Poppy by Royal Repast when you visit the city with our Udaipur tour packages. Specialising in traditional Mewari dishes, the banjara murgh at this eatery is one you will always remember.

Mirchi Bada

Lovers of spicy food should try out the popular street snacks known as mirchi badas in Udaipur. These are basically large green chillies that are stuffed with a potato filling, dipped in chickpea flour batter, and deep fried till they turn golden. They are crispy on the outside and are usually served with mint or tamarind chutney.

Ghewar

When you’re in the mood for something sweet in Udaipur, try out ghewar, which is often regarded as the state’s king of sweets. The ingredients that go into making this dessert include milk, ghee, and all-purpose flour, all of which are deep-fried till the exterior turns golden brown. These are then soaked in sugar syrup and topped off with saffron, pistachios, and almonds. This culinary treat is commonly seen during special occasions, gatherings, and festivals.
