Itinerary

Northern Spain has quaint villages, elegant cities, gorgeous landscapes, and serene beaches. With our Northern Spain holiday package, you get to explore all the beauties in the northern region of this stunning country.

Day 1: Arrive in Madrid - La Rioja - Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture

After you land in Madrid, our tour representatives will arrange a private car to drive to La Rioja. Here, you will explore the Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture and enjoy a gourmet lunch, soaking in the ambiance and the mesmerizing vineyards. Take in the historic buildings in La Rioja before returning to your hotel for the night.

Day 2: La Rioja – San Sebastian

On your second day, you will visit a traditional winery in La Rioja that has been around for 125 years and is run by the members of its founding family. After a round of wine tasting, you will visit San Sebastian to spend the night.

Day 3: San Sebastian

Today, you will explore San Sebastian, including the city’s many pintxos bars (Tapas bars are called that in the Basque region). Key attractions in San Sebastian include Old Town, the Monte Igueldo and Monte Urgull viewpoints, and beaches such as La Concha and Zurriola.

Day 4: Explore Bilbao

Bilbao is one of Europe’s iconic cities, famous for its avant-garde architecture, renowned gastronomy, and rich history. Some popular attractions include the Guggenheim Museum, the Zubizuri Bridge, and the Azkuna Zentroa centre. Don’t forget to explore the city’s tapas bars, called Pintxos in the Basque region.

Spend the night in San Sebastian.

Day 5: Oviedo – Picos de Europa – Covadonga – Fuente de

Today, you will drive to Oviedo, visiting Covadonga, Picos de Europa, and Fuente De on the way. Covadonga is famous for its lakes and beautiful landscapes. The Picos de Europa National Park is home to the world’s deepest caves, including the Torca del Cerro and Sima de la Cornisa. You will also take a cable car ride in Fuente de to admire the spectacular setting of valleys and rocky crests.

Finally, check into your hotel in Oviedo.

Day 6: University of Oviedo - Oviedo Cathedral - Santiago de Compostela

Before leaving Oviedo, visit the University of Oviedo and the Oviedo Cathedral, a Roman Catholic church in the center of Oviedo. Explore the Palacio del Marques de San Feliz before driving towards Santiago de Compostela.

Day 7: Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela

Walk around the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, which is the burial place of Saint James the Great. This is where you can also spot the Botafumeiro, one of the largest censers in the world, weighing 80 kg and measuring 1.60m in height. The highlight of the Cathedral is the huge incense burner that’s swung vigorously across the Cathedral, leaving the entire place smelling of incense. You can spend the rest of the day at your own pace.

Day 8: Santiago de Compostela – Salamanca

On the eighth day of your trip, you will visit Salamanca, a four-hour drive from Santiago de Compostela. Although Salamanca is in western-central Spain, this historic and charming city is worth visiting. Check into your hotel and spend the rest of the evening exploring the neighbourhood.

Spend the night in Salamanca.

Day 9: Depart from Madrid

Explore the Old City of Salamanca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its Roman, Romanesque, Gothic, Moorish, and Renaissance monuments and the 18th-century Plaza Mayor, before heading to Madrid.

Catch your return flight from Madrid or continue with the next leg of your Europe tour package journey.
